Aloha mai e hoa,

The Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu continues to work towards the 1918 mission of our founder, Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole: to elevate the social and intellectual status of Hawaiians, and to increase pride in Hawaiian heritage. To this end, we are proud to have awarded $60,000 in 2011 in scholarships to Hawaiian college students.

As you know, our annual scholarship benefit, Holokū Ball, is a long‐standing tradition that has become a huge success on many levels largely due to the generosity of community supporters. The event, named for the classic gown known as the holokū, is arguably the most elegant Hawaiian gala anywhere.

The Holokū Ball set for Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel’s Monarch Room. He Aloha Nā Kai ‘Ewalu is our theme expressing deep love for Hawai‘i. This ocean‐related theme will set the tone for a spectacular evening of top Hawaiian entertainment, a fabulous silent auction, and world‐class cuisine designed by the culinary experts at the Royal Hawaiian.

This year we will be honoring four individuals who have exemplified our theme.

Buffalo Keaulana – waterman, leader, ambassador

Nappy Napoleon – waterman, coach, mentor

Anona Napolean – paddler, organizer, inspiration

Jon Van Dyke (posthumous) – attorney, champion of native rights and law, educator

We are in the process of collecting merchandise for our silent auction, and we are writing to request your assistance in making the annual Holokū Ball a success. By donating, cash or an in‐kind item, you will be making a tax deductible contribution that will help the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu continue to promote post‐high education for deserving native Hawaiian students.

If you are able to make a donation, please contact us at 808 392 1617 or watson@honuaconsulting.com[2] to arrange for pick up. On behalf of our more than 200 members, our board of directors, scholarship trustees and President, Manu Boyd, mahalo piha! For additional information, please visit us online at www.hcchonolulu.or[3]g. Corporate tables are also available; please contact us for information about those opportunities.
