HCCH leadership would like to share our intention to forego this year’s Holokū Ball that was tentatively scheduled for November 2021. We plan to resume conversations regarding the 2022 Holokū Ball later in the year.
We typically allot our Holokū Ball Committee 6-8 months for planning and with the uncertainty of the times, we cannot in good confidence, plan for an event in 2021 with so many details that are unknown and uncertain.
On March 1, 2021 we announced the opening of applications for the 2021 HCCH Scholarship Program through our website and social media accounts. We have benefited from sound financial decision making by our Trustees and will still be awarding scholarships in 2021 even without the execution of the Holokū Ball this year. Things are moving along smoothly and we are on track. The closing of applications is set for April 30, 2021. We anticipate to announce this year’s Scholarship Recipient Awardees on or before August 30, 2021.
The global pandemic of Covid-19 has proved to challenge us in so many ways but we certainly look forward to virtual and hybrid events where we can highlight the 150th birthday year of our founder Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole and the legacy of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, which celebrates 100 this year.
Mahalo nui for the opportunity to share this update and enclosed information. We look forward to a time when it is safer to gather.
