Akaka Bill re-introduced to Congress
1/19/07:
Yesterday, Senator Akaka introduced the Native Hawaiian Reorganization Act of 2007. The bill establishes a process to extend the federal policy of self-governance and self-determination to Hawaii's indigenous people. The bill itself does not extend federal recognition - it authorizes the process for federal recognition. The bill is identical to legislative language
negotiated between Senator Inouye and Senator Akaka and officials from the Department of Justice, Office of Management and Budget, and the White House. The language satisfactorily addresses concerns expressed in July 2005 by the Bush Administration regarding the liability of the United States in land claims, the impact of the bill on military readiness, gaming, and civil and criminal jurisdiction in Hawaii.

For a complete text of Senator Akaka's remarks and a copy of the bill, please go to our website:

Want to encourage you to come join us in your Mamo uniform. If the family allows, we'll sing a couple songs and do a hula for Aunty Aggie. (Thanks to those that did attend Aunty's services today)

Her family would like us to sing on Saturday and if we can get enough of you to come, we will. Lucia has contacted the choral members, but has not heard back from many of them.  Her computer is down and she will be in meetings the next few days. So, I volunteered to take your emails htunk001@hawaii.rr.com, calls (732-2468) if you are able to join us on Sat. at 10:30 a.m. at Nu'uanu Baptist Church, 2010 Nu'uanu Avenue.  All HCCH members are encouraged to join us. Wear Mamo or, if you don't have a Mamo, aloha attire. Please respond ASAP as we need to let her family know whether or not we can sing.
