"I am grateful to have received the support of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu in pursuing my Master of Architecture degree at the University of Hawaii. I think the strong commitment of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu to help other Hawaiians pursue educational aspirations and goals is integral to strengthening Hawaiian values and our culture, and bonds us together in moving forward."
- Puanani Maunu, Master of Architecture
University of Hawaii at Manoa, Summer 1994.

The first recipient of a Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu ("HCCH") scholarship was Mr. Tandy MacKenzie. At that time, he was a struggling young Hawaiian trying to work his way through music school in New York. HCCH collected a thousand dollars and awarded Tandy the money. Tandy did finish music school and went on to become a world-renowned operatic tenor, captivating European and American audiences with a voice that rivaled that of the Great Enrico Caruso.

In 2000, HCCH awarded 49 scholarships totalling $34,800.00, and in 2001, HCCH awarded 30 scholarships totalling $37,645.00.

Each year, our Club's challenge is to offer continuous support to students throughout their college years, while still encouraging high school graduates to continue their education by awarding new scholarships to freshmen.

The HCCH's most important goal is to generate scholarship funding to help Hawaiian youth pursue their dream of attending college. We are asking you to help us realize this goal. It is no secret that helping our youth achieve higher education also helps the community at large, and your "partnership" with HCCH in attaining this goal will help many students.

Each year, hundreds of Hawaiian students apply to HCCH for scholarship assistance. Our fundraising drive for the Scholarship Fund is HCCH's annual Holoku BallSM. Since the late 1920's, this traditional cultural event has provided many of us with a beautiful nostalgic glimpse into the graciousness of yesteryear; where men and women donned traditional Hawaiian formal wear to share an evening of elegance, fellowship and camaraderie. Please join us to celebrate "Hawaiian Souvenirs: He Makana Hi`ipoli Makamae" and help to provide financial assistance to promising women and men of Hawai`i.
