The 2005 Scholarship Essay Question is:

Scholarship Question

Landowners, both Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian, have been faced with the lease to conversion law Hawaii passed several decades ago. Recently, a bill which repealed that law was passed and signed.

In 500-700 words discuss the following as it applies to the lease to conversion law:

  • Was this a federal, state, or city law?
  • When did it first take affect?
  • When was it repealed?
  • What exactly did this law permit?
  • What has been the affect of this law in molding the face of Oahu?
  • How has this law affected Hawaiians?
  • What affect will the repeal of this law have on Hawaiian foundations?
