Scholarship Question
The Native Hawaiian Education Act (NHEA) was first authorized by Congress
in 1988. It established funding for the Native Hawaiian people
or those agencies serving Native Hawaiian populations the opportunity
to engage in the creation of programs to aid Native Hawaiians.
The following questions apply to the Native Hawaiian Education Act:
- What federal agency administers the NHEA and how much funding is
available this year for programs?
- What qualifications must an organization have in order to apply
for funding?
- What four criteria should an organization applying for funding
make sure their project addresses?
- What is the Native Hawaiian Education Council and how does it relate
to the NHEA?
- Name 4 organizations that now have an NHEA grant?
- Finally, why is
it important that Congress continue to appropriate funding for
programs like the NHEA?
