Scholarship Question

The Native Hawaiian Education Act (NHEA) was first authorized by Congress in 1988.  It established funding for the Native Hawaiian people or those agencies serving Native Hawaiian populations the opportunity to engage in the creation of programs to aid Native Hawaiians.

The following questions apply to the Native Hawaiian Education Act:

  1. What federal agency administers the NHEA and how much funding is available this year for programs?
  2. What qualifications must an organization have in order to apply for funding?
  3. What four criteria should an organization applying for funding make sure their project addresses?
  4. What is the Native Hawaiian Education Council and how does it relate to the NHEA?
  5. Name 4 organizations that now have an NHEA grant?
  6. Finally, why is it important that Congress continue to appropriate funding for programs like the NHEA?

DO NOT RESPOND TO PAST YEARS' QUESTIONS. RESPONSES TO THE WRONG QUESTION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR SCHOLARSHIP.

Essay responses should be two pages (type-written and double-spaced). It is recommended that you use a font such as Courier and a font size of either 10pt or 12pt.
